What is 1977 south african grand prix?

The 1977 South African Grand Prix was held on March 5, 1977, at the Kyalami circuit in Midrand, South Africa. It was the second race of the 1977 Formula One season.

The race was won by Niki Lauda driving for Scuderia Ferrari, marking his first victory of the season. Jody Scheckter, a South African driver, finished in second place driving for Walter Wolf Racing, much to the delight of the local crowd. Mario Andretti, driving for Lotus, finished in third place.

The race was overshadowed by the tragic death of Welsh driver Tom Pryce, who collided with a track marshal who had run onto the track to help another driver whose car had caught fire. The marshal, Frederik Jansen van Vuuren, was also killed in the accident.

Despite the challenging circumstances of the race, it was a significant moment for Lauda and Ferrari as they started their successful championship-winning campaign for the season.
